At Alto Grayslake, moments of joy, connection, and celebration define who we are. This week, we had the privilege of honoring an extraordinary milestone — the 101st birthday of our beloved resident, Loretta.
A proud Illinois native, Loretta’s life is a beautiful tapestry of adventure, family, and community. Growing up in Chicago, she spent her childhood roller-skating around Wrigley Field — a glimpse of the energy and enthusiasm that still shines in her today. As an adult, she and her husband shared a love for sailing, often traveling to Mackinac Island, and later raised their family in Chicago while Loretta built a fulfilling career as a dental technician.
In 1970, Loretta moved to Lake County, where she embraced gardening and created a life rooted in warmth and connection. Today, she continues to brighten every room at Alto Grayslake. Whether she’s enjoying our monthly friends-and-family happy hours or savoring a sweet ice-cream treat, she approaches each day with grace and delight.
On October 24, residents, loved ones, team members, and community friends gathered to celebrate Loretta’s remarkable life. Balloons, music, joyful laughter, and heartfelt hugs filled the room — and we were honored to welcome Grayslake Mayor Elizabeth Davies to join in the celebration. It was a day overflowing with love, smiles, and gratitude.
Milestones like this remind us why fostering a supportive, connected, and joyful environment matters so deeply. Loretta’s resilience, warmth, and spirited outlook continue to inspire us every day. Following the celebration, she shared, “I had a good time and felt special.”
Here’s to Loretta — 101 years young and still shining so brightly at Alto Grayslake. Happy birthday to one of our community’s greatest treasures!
