Let’s face it. No one likes moving. It can be overwhelming, time-consuming, and stressful.
Moving to a senior living community can present a whole new set of challenges and concerns for new residents. You probably feel a mixture of excitement, anxiety, and apprehension about what you or your loved one’s new life will be like as a senior living resident.
However, you may be pleasantly surprised by the amount of support and assistance residents and families receive to ensure a seamless and stress-free experience. At Allegro, we’re committed to making the transition as smooth, welcoming, and supportive as possible.
This step-by-step guide walks new Allegro residents and their families through what to expect, from arrival, logistics to settling into their new home and making connections in the community.
Before Moving Day
Our goal is to make sure your move to senior living is organized, stress-free, and enjoyable. Our team begins coordinating and planning weeks before your scheduled arrival.
A community representative will contact you to schedule a move-in date and time and to provide important logistical details such as which entrance to use and where to unload and park.
This is an excellent opportunity to coordinate move-in times with family, friends, moving companies, and furniture deliveries. Your Allegro team members can also provide measurements for your apartment and essential community contacts.
Moving Day
Moving day is a busy day for residents, family members, and Allegro team members. Our goal is to provide you and your family with everything you need to have a productive and stress-free experience.
At Allegro Senior communities, you’ll feel the difference the moment you arrive:
- A community representative will welcome you and your family and take you to your new apartment.
- You’ll receive the keys to your new home, as well as contact information for maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry services.
- We’ll show you around your apartment, review any technology, and make sure you know where everything is located.
Many communities provide moving equipment, like carts or dollies, for resident use. We can help direct movers to make sure items safely arrive to your apartment.
This will be a hectic day, so don’t forget to eat. Take the time to order food or enjoy a meal with family in one of the community dining areas.
Getting Settled Into Your New Home
There’s a lot to accomplish on the first day, and we know you want to get settled into your new senior living home as quickly as possible.
- While family and staff move larger items to your apartment, this is a great time to start unpacking and decorating.
- Make your apartment feel like home by hanging up art, displaying cherished family photos, favorite accessories, and heirlooms.
- Create a cozy living space with plush rugs, soft towels, comfortable bedding, scented candles, and plants.
If you have family members that can help with furniture placement and unpacking, that's wonderful!
If not, many communities can help residents with maintenance concerns, unpacking, hanging pictures, organizing, making beds, and anything else needed to make your or your loved one’s apartment feel like home.
There’s a lot to do, so don’t worry if you can’t accomplish everything in one day. We’re here to provide support in the coming days to make sure you or your loved one gets settled in comfortably.
Getting to Know Your Community
Support doesn’t end on moving day. Your well-being is at the heart of everything we do, and we will continue to provide assistance to help you adjust quickly and acclimate to your new community.
Allegro’s activity calendars are filled with a variety of activities and events. From lively happy hours, group fitness classes, engaging lectures, and resident-led clubs, we provide residents with opportunities to meet and connect with others. An activity director is always available to help residents sign up for activities, classes, and events.
