Allegro Winter Park’s Book Club engages both residents and guests alike as a shared love of reading forges quality discussions and enduring friendships.

Amid uncertainty during the pandemic, Allegro Winter Park found a unique way to keep connections alive and thriving. What started as a simple idea to stay in touch with prospects via Zoom evolved into something much more profound – Allegro's vibrant book club, fostering genuine connections and a sense of community among residents and guests alike.

The journey of Allegro's book club is a testament to adaptability and the power of human interaction. When the pandemic forced social distancing measures, the community seized the opportunity to be creative. They launched their book club virtually, bringing together residents and prospects over Zoom. To add a thoughtful touch, the team would deliver the book to prospects' homes and drive snacks to their doorsteps on book club days. This person-centered approach not only enhanced the experience but also allowed for meaningful home visits, strengthening the bond between Allegro and its guests. Little did they know that this digital modification would lay the groundwork for an even more impactful in-person experience.

As restrictions eased and the community could open its doors again, Allegro made the decision to transition their book club from virtual to in-person gatherings. With books in hand and snacks at the ready, the book club has become a monthly highlight for its members—the club is currently at 15 participants, and they welcome new members! Led by Senior Living Advisor Babs Leaver, who’s passionate about reading and facilitating discussions, the club attracts a diverse group of individuals, each bringing their unique perspectives and stories to the table.

What's truly remarkable is how the book club blossomed from being a discussion group to becoming a platform for building friendships between residents and prospects and fostering a sense of belonging within the Allegro community. The intimate setting ignites lively conversations, with gentlemen often leading the chatter – a delightful surprise that has defied stereotypes.

Beyond the book club meetings, Allegro's community spirit extends to other events and celebrations. Members are invited to participate in various activities, further solidifying their sense of belonging. It's clear that the book club is more than just a literary gathering – it's a testament to the power of community and friendship.

Ultimately, this book club isn't just about the books – it's about the people. They are more than just members; they are a family united by a love for literature, laughter, and living beautifully. As Leaver fondly reflects, "They are my people, and we all have great affection for each other." And in a world that often feels chaotic and uncertain, finding such a community is nothing short of a blessing.

The Allegro Book Club meets every fourth Friday of the month at 1:00 pm. To learn more about joining the book club or attending other community events, contact Babs Leaver.
