Allegro Resident Celebrates Holiday Season by Giving Back

Tis the season for giving. A generous resident at Allegro proves this saying to be true this holiday season. Edward Harney, a senior living resident at Allegro located in Stuart, recruited his friend to become a resident at the community. As a result, he received a monetary reward for his referral through the Allegro Resident Referral Program. Instead of keeping this reward for himself, he generously decided to donate the money to the Alzheimer’s Association.

“I appreciate and support the wonderful work being done by the Alzheimer’s Association in helping to eradicate this terrible disease,” says Edward. “I am pleased to be able to make this donation for such a worthy cause.”

Edward has lived at Allegro for the past six years.  Allegro has been proudly serving seniors in the Stuart area since opening its doors in 2011.

Hurricane Irma Community Update

Community Updates (Hurricane Irma)

All communities are fully restored, and the residents are enjoying being home.

As our communities resume normal, day-to-day life after Hurricane Irma, we celebrate our Allegro family. These men and women stepped up to the plate to ensure that our residents were safe and comforted during a stressful situation brought on by the storm. They embraced each resident, and each other, as if they were family. Hurricane Irma may have brought dark clouds our way, but the dedication and commitment of our associates shone through brightly.

Executive Director Delights Residents During Passover

Here’s a story about our Executive Director at Boynton Beach, Veronica.

She’s a strong, determined leader who puts her heart and soul into her job as Executive Director at Allegro Senior Living. Here’s an example…

Since yesterday was the first day of Passover, associates walked into the kitchen to find Veronica wearing an apron and at the grill. At first, they thought that perhaps someone in the kitchen had called off and she was just helping out. She cheerfully said no. She was making Matzo Brei. Matzo Brei is a Passover breakfast tradition that many look forward to eating during Passover. It is a dish that Veronica was not familiar with and can be somewhat intimidating to cook the first time around. However, Veronica knew that it was a meaningful dish and tradition for residents. The recipe didn’t intimidate her. She was able to personally cook and serve Matzo Brei to residents.

Veronica’s passion for helping seniors brought her from the corporate world to senior living.

Having an Executive Director who goes above and beyond is a beautiful thing for our …

Allegro located in Winter Park is proud to partner with Growing Bolder to shine the spotlight on local seniors who are pursuing their passions and living lives of purpose while making a difference in the lives of others. Dedicated to smashing the negative, ageist stereotypes that many people have about seniors, the Growing Bolder Awards honor the power and possibility of aging.

There was nothing OLD and everything BOLD about the Growing Bolder Awards, the first ceremony of its kind in Central Florida. Allegro located in Winter Park presented the Inspired Lifestyle Award to honor someone who proves that passion and purpose only improve with age, Marci Arthur.

Marci studied at the actual Cordon Bleu, teaches classes for the Rollins Center for Lifelong Learning and owns Truffles & Trifles in College Park –an iconic Central Florida cooking school that has been named one of the top 5 cooking schools in America for fun. And it’s not all been easy – she bounced back from a debilitating car accident after which doctors said she would never walk again.

Storm Safety at Allegro

As Hurricane Matthew makes its way to Florida, the safety of our residents and associates are our number one priority. Our teams are busy putting every precaution in place to ensure we are equipped for the storm’s fury. Here are precautions Allegro is taking in preparation for the storm:

• Resident and associate meetings have been held to communicate safety plans. • Communities are equipped with additional disaster food supplies. • Our teams have purchased extra emergency lighting. • Care staff will assist residents with obtaining additional supplies of medications. • We’ve secured additional water supply for drinking and personal care. • Outdoor furniture has been secured. • Vacant apartments/common areas/offices have been prepared for associates and their families.

Should you or a senior loved one need short-term care during or after the storm, Allegro has opportunities available for short-term respite stays.

Should you have any questions, please call or contact your local community for individual safety and communication plans.
