Allegro Love Stories – The Secret to Marriage

Many couples at Allegro have been together sixty plus years, and they are experts in maintaining a successful marriage. So we asked them, “What is the secret to a lasting marriage?” Here is some of the advice they shared with us.

Tish & Robert Married 65 years Try not to lose your temper too often.

Gene & Mary Married 61 years Tolerance. Being able to accommodate one another.

Harriet & Clayton Married 63 years Let each other do what they want to do with no argument.

Joseph & Irene Married 59 years You need to talk out all your problems, even if you don’t want to.

Millie & Roy Married 64 years Agree on things and have love and respect for each other.

Allegro Love Stories – Al and Lou

Love is in the air at Allegro. In honor of Valentine’s Day, we are sharing stories of love on the blog.  A few of our residents were gracious enough to impart some words of wisdom and tales of single life, dating, marriage.

Meet Al & Lou

How did they meet?

Al and Lou found love later in life. Both met shortly after moving to Allegro and have been together four years since. When they met at Allegro, neither was looking for love. However, they started a friendship, which blossomed into something more.

How is dating different in your later years?

Al and Lou both agree that when dating at this age there are no expectations. Life is simple. With their life experiences, they both agree that listening to your significant other is the most important part of a relationship.

Al and Lou often compare their life together as a luau (Lou + AL)!

Meet Madeline (aka Petty) and Dr. Paul Niloff

Married: 64 years in love

Hobbies: Traveling and spending quiet time together

How did they meet?

Paul and Petty met in a hospital. Petty was working in the outpatient area and Paul was beginning his clinical. They met at the lunch counter one day. He wanted to ask her out but she was younger than he was. He was intimidated by their age difference and decided not to ask her out.  One day Petty asked him for a ride downtown, as he went there every afternoon to his office. When she got into his car, she saw a basket of laundry in the back seat. She asked him, “doesn’t your wife do laundry?” He said he was not married. The truth was that Petty had …
